T
he theme for this month is accepting the desires
God places on our heart, assessing needs in our
communities, and being salt and light.
Our cover story about Dr. Mark Chin focuses on a
mission trip by a small group. His passion to help
others is an invitation for each of us to discover
our mission in life, be it around the corner or
around the globe. Join Dr. Chin as he recounts his
trip and consider taking a short-term mission over
spring break or summer. You can meet Dr. Chin at
our Salt Shaker Showcase event the end of March.
A little closer to home, Convoy of Hope ministries
came through Fresno last fall. Thanks for those of
you who served at that event. Check out page 20
for a follow-up on that successful and
life-changing opportunity to serve our
community.
This time we feature a new columnist (
see page 36
),
Dave Wainscott, pastor of Third Day Fresno
Fellowship. He possesses a unique way of
challenging how we think about our view of God,
others, and ourselves. Look for more to come from
this great thinker.
In this issue you will learn how to peacefully
reconcile broken relationships from Dr. Ron
Claassen (
page 38
) who has been a featured
columnist since the "black and white" days of this
publication. He created curriculum around this
theme and his insights are practical. I know this
because my family benefited from these
principles a few years ago when we implemented
them to avoid any potential conflict of a
changing living situation in our home.
Please look over the pages throughout this issue
highlighting organizations that need your help.
ReadFresno always needs volunteers.
Locally owned Christian talk radio station
KRDU 1130AM has been very supportive of the
magazine. Maybe over spring break you'd like to
take a tour of KRDU. The guys would be happy to
show you what they do and how they do it--they
will even give you the opportunity to record a
station "promo" to be played on the air!
Call (559) 486-1130 to schedule your tour.
As we experience the newness of springtime,
Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you
the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4.

Volume 7 Issue 3
March 2010
Dr. Mark Chin
First Chinese
Baptist Church
Jesus said, "Let me tell you why you are here. You're here
to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God- avors of
this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste
godliness? You've lost your usefulness and will end up in
the garbage. Here's another way to put it: You're here to
be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is
not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as
public as a city on a hill." Matthew 5:13-14, The Message
